Major Factors that Affect Compressed Air Quality

Any amount of particulate can damage your compressed air system. Even aerosols can lead to machine failure. This is one reason why it’s important to ensure that compressed air quality is maintained. However, there are other elements that you need to be familiar with to be on top of your system’s maintenance.

Compresstech Resources, Inc. has been providing compressed air solutions for businesses for over 35 years. Check out our guide that shares some of the points that you need to be familiar with to effectively handle your compressed air system.

4 Factors Affecting Compressed Air Quality

1. Pressure Dew Point

Pressure Dew Point

Pressure dew point serves as a metric in determining the dryness of compressed air. It is the temperature at which moisture in the system is condensed into a liquid. Industry standards recommend pressure dew point to be at least 18° F below the minimum temperature where any part of the system is exposed.

There are high-quality industrial dryers that will help remove excess moisture in your compressed air system. A range of adsorption drying technologies can also be used with a range of air instrument applications. Find out more here.

2. Particle Size

Particle Size

Most pneumatic devices have a maximum particle size of 40-micrometer in the instrument air system. But for other pneumatic devices that require less than 40-micrometer particle size, additional filtration will be needed.

3. Contaminants

Contaminants

Contaminants and compressed air systems don’t go well together. It is a must to keep your equipment free of particles that can damage your system. Any amount of hazardous gases, vapors, aerosols, and other particulates may become the reason why you’ll fail in meeting your air instrument requirements.

NOTE: Air filters can be used to ensure that your system is free from unwanted particulates. Learn more about your best options on air treatment solutions through Compresstech.

4. Oil and Lubricant

Oil and Lubricant

Compressed air systems should be free from lubricant or oil content as much as possible. It is also important to ensure that lubricant content will not go beyond 1 ppm w/w or v/v. In cases when lubricant has penetrated the compressed air systems, it should be assessed for compatibility with end-use pneumatic devices.
